A collective biography of a remarkable group of friends.
A great book about the members of The Lunar Society: an informal, Eighteenth Century club of scientists, inventors and entrepreneurs, based in the English Midlands.
The society's members included Erasmus Darwin (doctor, poet, scientist, and paternal grandfather of Charles), Josiah Wedgwood (potter, industrialist, and maternal grandfather of the same), Matthew Boulton (industrialist), James Watt (of steam engine fame), Joseph Priestley (chemist and radical), and many others. Basically, a Who's Who of the early English enlightenment.
My kind of book. Highly recommended.
